Yahoo! Messenger for Mac allows you to chat with your friends from the comfort of your Mac. Although the application is blessed with a pleasant interface, similar to that of iChat, it suffers from slowdowns, possibly due to the application still being in Beta.

Yahoo! Messenger lets you add your own profile picture or use your Yahoo! avatar if you have one. You can display the iTunes track playing on your Mac, just like with Skype and organize all your contacts in groups. Yahoo! Messenger also includes the expected emoticons and different status, including the ability to sign in as invisible. Up to now nothing spectacular.

In an attempt to emulate VoIP clients, Yahoo! Messenger allows you to make calls and send SMS messages, an option you'll also find in MSN. You can also connect and use your webcam, however be aware that it tends to lag and slow down during use.

Yahoo! Messenger allows you to transfer 'monster' files, that is ones up to 2 GB. That sounds great, unfortunately files over 200 MB tend to take a significant amount of time until they're fully transferred.

An attractive interface and good call and SMS features unfortunately don't make Yahoo! Messenger a true VoIP client yet.
